Ding, ding, round two. Editing this week has been strangely enjoyable. I’m at that stage where all the big cogs are turning in the narrative and it’s now down to deepening character and levelling out the kinks. There’s something very pleasurable for a writer when they can take a few sentences away from the main text and focus on those lines to make them stronger. It feels truly like ‘proper’ craft! Which of course it should do. This week I’ve worked on character experience, their world view and cliche. Debated whether ‘threat’ is best conveyed overtly or covertly. This makes me think about the monster under the bed when you’re a child. Always scarier when you can’t look, right?
Happy Writing and Reading!
